Missing mandatory statement: ‘root-authentication’

After a fresh install of the JUNOS and assign an IP address on a interface and tried to execute “commit” but encounter an error:

Junos OS requires configuration of the root password before it accepts a commit operation.

Assign the root password:

# set system root-authentication plain-text-password

The password set need to meet the requirements.

Now commit again.

After you installed the Brocade vRouter, you would notice the error message which keep popping up.

Solution, issue this command witin vRouter

# sudo sed -i 's/T0/#T0/' /etc/inittab

Install Brocade 5400 vRouter in VirtualBox

Brocade v5400
VirtualBox 4.2.8

Start VirtualBox and create a new virtual machine

Give the virtual machine a Name and type Linux , Version

The minimum RAM size needed to run a vRouter is 1 GB.

Create a new hard disk for this installation

Select VMDK disk type

image

Select the dynamic disk type @ thin install

Allocate the disk space

image

After creation, right click and select Settings

Add the vRouter ISO file in the CD/DVD Drive

Locate the ISO file

image

Power the virtual machine up and you will see the Vyatta logo

After finish booting you will be at the live CD login prompt

Login using the following credentials

Username : vyatta

Password : vyatta

Install the Brocade vRouter onto the virtual harddisk

# install image

image

Note down the password you enter during installation !

Shut the virtual machine down and remove the ISO from the virtual CDROM. The boot the virtual machine up.

Upon boot up, login using the password you set during installation process

Done. Brocade vRouter installed

VTP protocol user notification: MD5 digest checksum mismatch on receipt of equal revision summary on trunk

Error Message

VTP protocol user notification: MD5 digest checksum mismatch on receipt of equal revision summary on trunk

The domain was changed from NULL to CCNA but VTP client has a different MD5 digest which causing the error to prompt out.

Solution

Create a temporary VLAN and then removing it will cause the VTP server to send out updates hence clearing this issue.

Lucky winner for the Symantec surveys - 8GB USB

Today received in the mail a parcel which felt heavy inside, by looking at the it did said it came from Symantec and inside was the USB drive which look like and felt like a lock !

Preparing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x86_64

Below are some caveats when installing IOU under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit. Certain package and path has changed slightly, but the rest remains the same.

Error : "No such file or directory"
Resolution : Install ia32-libs but 14.04 the package is not available. Install from old repo.

sudo -i
cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d
echo "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring main restricted universe multiverse" >ia32-libs-raring.list
apt-get update
apt-get install ia32-libs
rm ia32-libs-raring.list
apt-get update

or

sudo apt-get install -y lib32z1 \
  lib32ncurses5 \
  lib32bz2-1.0 \
  libssl1.0.0:i386 \
  libtinfo5:i386

Error : "error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
Resolution : Create a symbolic link

sudo ln -s /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.4

Full screen flash video on dual monitor

It never occurred to me this was an annoyance till today when I tried to do full screen flash video from the Firefox on the second monitor and work on the laptop screen at the same time. Even I drag the separate window to the second monitor, the full screen would go wide on my laptops screen.

Lucky the Google didn’t not let me down today!

You will need to edit the DLL which handle this function using a Hex editor.

Hex editor – xvi32 [LINK]

Location of the DLL to modify - C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

DLL File - NPSWF32_11_9_900_117.dll

Instruction

*** Backup the DLL before you edit ***

1. Download and open the DLL with the Hex editor. Search for "74 39 83 E8 07 74 11 83 E8 05 75 13 8B"

2. Change the 74 and 39 to 90 and 90.

3. Restart Firefox and enjoy
